How to get to Mirembe Resort Beach Hotel in Kalangala, Ssese islands, Lake Victoria

Option 1 Ssese Entebbe (Nakiwogo) MV Kalangala Ferry

From Entebbe International Airport or Kampala City, take a taxi or Boda boda (motor cycle taxi) to Nakiwogo landing site near Entebbe Town, and there you will find the MV Ferry Kalangala that heads to the Ssese Islands. The ferry leaves at 2.00pm daily from Nakiwogo in Entebbe and arrives in Lutoboka Bay in Ssese Isands, Kalangala Town at 5.30pm. The MV Kalangala ferry docks at Lutoboka located only 500 metres from our hotel. Shuttle transfers from Lutoboka Bay to Mirembe Resort Beach Hotel is free. On the way back to Entebbe from Kalangala, the ferry leaves at 8 am. Ticket is UGX 10,000 for second class and UGX 14,000 for first class. Getting a ticket either way, can be bought soon before departure.

Once back in Entebbe it is easy to take a taxi ‘matatu’ (sort of collective transport) to Kampala. Cost UGX 3500 and the journey takes about 40 min to 1:00 hour to get to Kampala.

Option 2: Taking the Ssese Masaka Ferry (MV Pearl and MV Ssese)

The government introduced 2 marine vessel ferries operated by Kalangala Infrastructure Services (KIS)  (MV Pearl and MV Ssese) from Bukakata near Masaka to Luku (Bugoma Landing Site) now operates regular schedule below;

Getting to Bukakata landing Site, the site is situated two and a half hours from Kampala to Nyendo (Masaka). The easy shortcut can be to branch at Kabale Bugonzi, look out for the signage (Bukataka Road)

40 minutes from Nyendo to Bukakata

30 minutes crossing by ferry from Bukakata to Bugoma (Ssese Islands)

40 minutes from Bugoma Landing Site to Kalangala Town

5 minutes’ drive from Kalangala Town to final destination Mirembe Resort Beach Hotel, Ssese Islands.

When making your reservation, the hotel can arrange pick up from Bugoma landing site at UGX 150,000 using hotel shuttle. Contact us to book your shuttle. 

Private car options are also available. Once you get to Luku (Bugoma) landing site take a 9 seater car (not conformable) collective transport to Kalangala Town. Cost UGX 15,000 and takes about 1HR on a dirt road to get to Kalangala.
